Delhi HC warns Facebook, Google to face blackout or comply to Indian laws

The Delhi High Court has warned Facebook and Google India that they can be blocked in India, if they fail to check and remove objectionable material from their web pages. The HC refused to quash the criminal complaint against Google and facebook, related to publishing of infammatory images of some Gods and Goddesses.

The Hon’ble Judge Suresh Cait cited that liability of the content posted on the site falls on them as they are the beneficiary and doing business in India. Websites’ contention that they should be exempted from liability as they don’t control or administer the content on the website as they are 100% subsidiaries of the parent companies based in the US was also rejected by the HC.
